Chicken's Cakes in 10 Easy Steps

Ingredients:

5 ounces of self-rasing flour/wheat free flour*

4 ounces of caster sugar

4 ounces of soft butter or margarine

2 eggs

Icing sugar

Water

Icing pens

Smarties/Jelly Tots/Raisins/Nerds

A

*if you are using wheat free flour, please add 1tsp of baking powder to your ingredients list.

Equipment:

An oven - pre-heated to 180 degrees celsius

A large mixing bowl

A small mixing bowl

A tray with holes for cupcake cases

Cupcake cases

An electric mixer

A sieve

Some spoons and knives

A wire cooling rack

Method:

1. Put the butter and sugar into the large mixing bowl, and mix them with the electric mixer until smooth.

2. Sieve in the flour (wheat or non-wheat) and add the eggs. If you are using wheat free flour, add the baking powder.

3. Whizz it until it's smooth. If it's sticky, add some milk in small amounts until you reach a light yellow consitency.

4. Put the cupcake cases into the tray.

5. Take a table spoon and a tea spoon. Take a portion of the mixture with it, and push it into a case with the teaspoon. Repeat this for all your cases until you run out of mixture.

6. Put the cakes into the oven (if you are younger get an adult with oven gloves to do this) and set the timer for 15 minutes.

7. When the cakes are looking golden and smelling good, take them out and put them somewhere where they won't melt a surface. THEY WILL BE HOT! Push a fork/knife into one of the cake's centers. If the utensil comes out clean, the cakes are done. If the utensil is covered in mixture, then put the cakes in for another 5 mins.

8. Immediatly take the cakes from the tray and put them on the wire rack. Leave them until they are stone cold.

9. When they are stone cold, sieve about 1 ounce of icing sugar into a small mixing bowl. Add one teaspoon of water to this mixture. If you want, you can add lemon juice instead. Mix this with a teaspoon, until you can mix no more. If the icing is very sticky, add another teaspoon, and mix again. Do not add too much water/lemon juice, as this will make the icing too runny. If this happens, sieve in some more sugar. When you feel the icing is of a fab consistency, put it on your cakes.

10. When the icing is setting, put on an orange sweet in the middle of your cake. When the icing is dry, do a red squiggle at the top and two black dots just above the sweet. It should, hopefully, look like a chicken!

A very bad illustration. Pictures to come very soon!
